Taught at the Universities of Pittsburgh, Lexington/Kent., Geneva, Paris-Nanterre, Bamberg, Regensburg, Los Angeles, and Marburg. 1995-2007 Full Professor at the University of Tübingen. 2007-2008 Member of the School of Historical Studies of the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton. Main areas of research and publication: medieval book illumination, Romanesque sculpture; Greco; Goya; art of the Spanish Civil War; images of Jews, medieval and modern. Facsimile commentaries of the Apocalypses at Trier (1975), Oxford Douce 180 (1983), Bamberg (2000) and Valenciennes (2011/12) as well as of the Beatus manuscripts of Urgel (1999/2001), Manchester (2002), Lorvão (2004), Las Huelgas (2005/06), Berlin (2010), Madrid Vitr. 14-1 (2011) and Saint-Sever (2013). |
